Reshaped: Day 16 - Corrie ten Boom

Persecution
     Reading Matthew 5:10-12

The violence toward the Jewish citizens escalated. Suddenly Jewish families began disappearing - their businesses shut down.

One day on Casper and Corrie’s daily walk, they witnessed a truck loading Jewish men, women, and children into the back. Corrie’s anger was kindled. She could not comprehend the violence toward the Jews.

Soon the war raged over the Holland skies. Thunderous bombs shook the Beje. One night Corrie took comfort in Betsie’s company in the kitchen instead of the solitude of her room. When Corrie retired to sleep, she felt a sudden sharp sensation and blood! A piece of shrapnel had landed on her pillow. She ran to show Betsie. Corrie marveled at what could have happened if she was in bed. But she was met with wise counsel from her older sister.

“There are no if’s in the kingdom of God, Corrie.” Though Betsie was a gentle, small framed woman, her faith was a powerful wellspring from which Corrie drew much strength.

Betsie ten Boom

Question

  • Betsie, like Casper, was a devout woman of God. She viewed all things through the lens of heaven. What did Betsie mean by “There are no if’s in the kingdom of God?”
