Reshaped: Day 4- Moses

Resistance
Reading Exodus 7:14-12

Callouses on a hardened heart must be chipped away for tenderness to surface. This is a true statement for both Pharaoh and Moses – Pharaoh in his bolstering pride and Moses in his insecurities.

Unfortunately, Pharaoh refused to be humbled. God sent ten plagues to ravage Egypt until Pharaoh was rendered completely powerless. Though he possessed a mighty army fully outfitted with horses and chariots, he could do nothing to stop the rampage of God’s judgment. As his strength waned, he gave glimpses of surrender only to retract when relief came. Convictions wear thin when the anvil’s pressure lightens.

Matthew Henry once said, “Till the disposition of the air is changed, what thaws in the sun will freeze again in the shade.” But regardless, when God’s righteous right hand moves, no power nor wealth nor human resource can stand against. For the power of God is truly Almighty and unchallengeable.

Questions

  • What contributes to callouses, even in believers?
  • Why are they so dangerous?
  • The ten plagues served as an anvil for Pharaoh but his defiance led to his death. An anvil will bring rich abundance for those who allow it to do it’s complete work. But denying the process will cause shapes and changes God never intended.
