Seen Through the Blood (It changes everything)
We all walk through life wearing different lenses that shape how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. Some wear rose-colored glasses, seeing everything as perfect. Others view life through jaded or cynical lenses, unable to imagine good outcomes. But what if I told you that God has His own lens through which He sees you-and it's not what you might expect?
What Does It Mean to Be Seen Through the Blood?
God's lens isn't rose-colored, ignoring reality, nor is it jaded with disappointment. Instead, God sees you through the blood of Jesus. Every time He looks at you, He sees you in light of Jesus' finished work on the cross. This isn't just a nice sentiment-it's a biblical truth that can transform your entire life.
Why Blood Matters in Scripture
Blood in the Bible represents life itself. When Adam and Eve sinned in Eden, death entered the world. Since the penalty of sin is death, forgiveness could only come through a life being given. This is why God instituted animal sacrifices in the Old Testament.
Leviticus 17:11 explains: "For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I've given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar. It is the blood that makes atonement for one's life."
The Hebrew word for atonement, "kaphar," literally means "to cover." Animal blood would cover over sin temporarily, allowing for forgiveness. But these sacrifices had to be repeated because, as Hebrews 10:4 tells us, "it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins."
Jesus: The Perfect Sacrifice
This is why Jesus came. Romans 3:25 says, "God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement through the shedding of his blood to be received by faith." Where animal blood was temporary, Jesus' blood was eternal. Where our efforts were imperfect, His was totally pure.
But here's the incredible difference: Jesus' blood doesn't just cover sin-it cleanses it completely. First John 1:7 tells us "the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin." When God looks at those who have received Jesus by faith, He doesn't see sin, failure, or mistakes. He sees the blood and the potential you were created for.
How This Changes Everything
Understanding how God sees you through the blood transforms three crucial areas of your life:
1. It Changes How You View Yourself
You're not defined by your past mistakes or current struggles. You're not the person you used to be. You have a future, a purpose, and you are deeply loved.
2. It Changes How You Love God
How can you not love a God who would sacrifice His own Son for you? While you were still His enemy, He chose to pursue you with such incredible love.
3. It Changes How You View and Love Others
When you truly love someone, you love what they love. God loves everyone. This means seeing others not as their mistakes or issues, but as people loved by God-either washed by the blood or those who can be.
What Scripture Says About How God Sees You
You Are a New Creation
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
You have a new spiritual identity. Your old mistakes, shame, guilt, habits, and inadequacies don't belong to the new you. When you see yourself as new, you'll begin to live like you are new.
You Are Justified
Romans 4:25 speaks of justification-a legal term meaning acquittal. Your record has been wiped clean. God says He will "remember their sin no more" (Hebrews 8:12). It's like divine amnesia-God literally forgets your forgiven sins.
You Have Christ's Righteousness
"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The cross was a two-way exchange. Jesus took your sin, but He gave you His righteousness in return. God now looks at you the same way He looks at Jesus-with complete approval and acceptance.
You Are God's Adopted Child
"The Spirit you receive does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again. Rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship... Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs with God and co-heirs with Christ" (Romans 8:15, 17).
You're not just forgiven-you're family. You're not just a servant-you're a child with an inheritance. Anything God would give Jesus, He will now give you.
You Are Seated with Christ
"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms, in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:6).
You share Christ's authority and perspective. You're fighting life's battles from a position of victory, seated next to God Himself.
You Are More Than a Conqueror
Romans 8:35-39 declares that nothing can separate you from God's love, and "in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."
You're not a victim or powerless. No human, government, addiction, illness, or even Satan himself can stop you because you are more than an overcomer in Christ.
You Are God's Ambassador
"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us" (2 Corinthians 5:20).
You're an official representative of heaven on earth. God chose to include you in His rescue plan for the world. You get to represent Jesus to others.
Living in This Truth
These aren't just nice ideas-they're spiritual realities. But your experience of them is directly proportional to your ability to believe them. When you truly believe how God sees you through the blood, it rewires your thinking and transforms your life.
Consider this perspective: What if we lived with the same kind of unconditional affection for others that God has for us? What if we saw everyone through the lens of God's love rather than through judgment? This would be living in the kingdom of heaven here and now.
Life Application
This week, I challenge you to put on new lenses-ones that view everything through the blood of Jesus. Read and memorize the scriptures mentioned in this message. Repeat these truths until they rewire your brain, because eventually you will believe them. And when you do, you will have power.
Remember: you are a new creation. You are justified. You are righteous. You are God's child and heir. You are seated with Christ. You are more than a conqueror. You are His ambassador.
Ask yourself these questions:
- How would my daily decisions change if I truly believed I am seated with Christ in heavenly places?
- What fears or insecurities would lose their power if I fully embraced that God sees me as righteous as Jesus?
- How would I treat others differently if I consistently viewed them through the lens of God's love rather than their mistakes?
- What bold steps would I take for God's kingdom if I lived as the ambassador He's called me to be?
You are seen through the blood. Let this truth change how you see yourself, how you love God, and how you love and view others. Walk out with boldness and confidence, knowing you are exactly who God says you are.
