Reshaped: Day 17 - Corrie ten Boom

Persecution
     Reading Matthew 5:10-12

It came clear that the goal of Nazism was to exterminate the Jews. The minor assaults gave way to devastating violence. The National Socialist Bond (NSB) had a dangerous agenda – control the population.

Ration cards for food were distributed. Radios were confiscated from all households to stop the communication flow. Newspapers reported only German statistics such as obituaries of military leaders or victories over the nations. Holland’s own Queen Wilhelmina fled to England leaving her citizens to the stranglehold of Germany’s grip. These were dark days.

And yet a light dawned over the ten Boom household. Casper, Corrie, and Betsie determined in their hearts that they could not stand by idly and watch the Germans desecrate the Jews. If any Jews sought refuge, they would answer their convictions by hiding them in their home. The cost was enormous. The risk – grave. But when God calls the faithful to rise, the call must be answered.

Even if, at the time, it was against the law.

Question

  • When is it faithful to break man’s laws?
  • Can you recall in God’s word when someone broke man’s laws to obey God?
